Beginning Band 

Parents and Students –

I am in the process of meeting with Mr. Thompson’s 5th Grade Music classes during the month of April to introduce myself and answer questions about the band program. 

The senior high band will also be putting on a fun concert for the elementary students on May 3rd at 9:00AM. Students will have the opportunity to hear and learn about the band program from the senior high students.

Students will be taking a tour of the Middle/High School building in May, and at that time, they will be given the option to sign up for band or choir, or both. If students register for band, they will also select what instrument they plan to play on the form.

Your choices are Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, Percussion (if you have two years of private piano lessons).

Options for obtaining an instrument:

1. Music Mart Lease To Own Program - visit website www.themusicmart.biz to learn more about this program. Orders for instruments and supplies will be done online this year.

We will have an instrument display with Jeremy from The Music Mart combined with Norwood Young America Bands on Thursday, May 16th from 3:30 - 6:30 in the NYA HS Band Room.  The band room has an outside door to the right of the main entrance.  We will plan on having a banner outside the door if the weather is nice!

Jeremy will explain the lease to own program and help you order supplies at this meeting. Attendance is not mandatory and the information can be obtained online, but it’s a good opportunity to learn more about the program if you are interested.

2. You already have an instrument from a family member, relative or friend that you want to use. Great! I just ask that we send those instruments in to The Music Mart or other reputable instrument repair store to get evaluated. Often times if the instrument has sat un-played for a period of time, it needs some work to get it into good playing condition.

3. Buy an instrument outright. This is an option that some choose. If you are considering this, please email me with the information on the instrument you are considering. We want to make sure it’s going to be an instrument that is from a reputable manufacturer. Sometimes instruments purchased online look like a great deal, but they aren’t ones of good quality.

4. Use a school instrument. I have some school instruments available to rent for a yearly fee, but availability is limited, and you may not be able to get your first choice. 

We will be using Essential Elements Book 1 for the lesson book and for full group band. That book, and a music stand for at home practice will also need to be purchased along with reeds for woodwind players.

Summer Lessons

I anticipate summer lessons being scheduled for 3 Weeks – 

Week of June 24, Week of July 8 and Week of July 29

. This is a tentative schedule at this point.

These lessons will take place in person in the high school band room. Each student will have a weekly 30 minute lesson. Parents are invited too.  Once I have the band roster established, I will create and send the schedule out to everyone.

Banda de Principiantes 

Padres y Estudiantes –

Estoy en el proceso de reunirme con las clases de Música de 5to Grado del Maestro Thompson durante el mes de abril para presentarme y responder a preguntas sobre el programa de banda. 

La banda de la secundaria también tendrá un concierto divertido para los estudiantes de la primaria el 5 de mayo a las 9:00 AM. Los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de escuchar y aprender sobre el programa de banda de los estudiantes de la secundaria.

Los estudiantes harán un recorrido por el edificio de la Escuela Secundaria en mayo, y en ese momento, se les dará la opción de inscribirse en banda o coro, o ambos. Si los estudiantes se registran para banda, también seleccionarán qué instrumento planean en el formulario.

Tus elecciones son Flauta, Clarinete, Saxo Alto, Trompeta, Corno Francés, Trombón, Barítono, Tuba, Percusión (si tiene dos años de clases particulares de piano).

Opciones para obtener un instrumento:

1. Music Mart Programa de Arrendamiento con opción a compra - visite sitio web www.themusicmart.biz para aprender más sobre este programa. Órdenes para instrumentos y los suministros se harán en línea esta año.

• Tendremos nuestra pantalla de instrumento virtual con Jeremy de La Music Mart a través de Google Meet el jueves, 11 de mayo a las 6:00PM. Enviaré un enlace por correo electrónico a los padres. Jeremy explicará el programa de arrendamiento con opción a compra y le ayudará a pedir suministros en esta reunión. 

2. Ya tienes un instrumento de un familiar, pariente o amigo que quieres usar. Excelente! Solo pido que envien el instrumento al Music Mart u otro lugar de reparacion de instrumentos de buena reputacion para qu elos evaluen. Muchas veces el instrumento ha permanecido sin tocar un periodo de tiempo, necesita algo de trabajo para que esté en buenas condiciones de ejecución. 

3. Comprar un instrumento directamente. Esta es una opción que algunos eligen. Si estás considerando esto, por favor envíame un correo electrónico con la información del instrumento que estás considerando. Queremos asegurarnos que sea un instrumento de un fabricante de renombre. Algunas veces instrumentos comprados en línea parecen una buena oferta, pero no son de buena calidad.

4. Usar un instrumento de la escuela. Tengo algunos instrumentos disponibles para rentar por una cuota anual, pero la disponibilidad es limitada, y es posible que no pueda obtener su primera opción. 

Estaremos usando el Libro Essential Elements Book 1 para el libro de lecciones y para la banda de grupo completo. Ese libro, y también será necesario comprar un atril para practicar en casa junto con lenguetas para los instrumentos de viento de madera.

Lecciones en el Verano

Anticipo las lecciones de verano ser por 4 semanas – 

La semana del 10 de Julio, la semana del 17 de Julio, la semana del 31 de Julio, la semana del 7 de Agosto. Este es un calendario tentativo en este momento.

Estas lecciones se tomarán a cabo en persona en el salon de banda de la secundaria. Cada estudiante tendrá una lección semanal de 30 minutos. Los padres también están invitados.  Ya que tendrá la lista de banda establecida, creare y enviare el horario a todos.
