1. Who can participate in Junior High Knowledge Bowl?
Students in grades 7-9 are invited to sign up. SE Competes in Minnesota’s South Central Region which includes schools from Sibley County south to the Iowa Border. About 27 schools with a total of about 60 teams are expected to participate this year.

2. When are practices?
Monday during second lunch starting at 11:47. Any changes will be announced ahead of time. A season schedule will be distributed. If unable to attend practice, students should personally let coaches know prior to practice. Students should not bring guests or snacks along to practice.

3. What kind of meets are there? How many meets will SE attend?, Coach
SE will participate in 4 invitational meets and the Sub-regional meet. Qualifying teams will advance to the Regional meet.

4. When are meets held?
Meets are held during the school day-generally from 8:30am-1:30pm. Most meets are held on school days. Sometimes we leave very early in the morning depending on where the meet is being held.

5. How many students are on a team?
Teams of six students compete in one written round and 3-4 oral rounds. Coaches determine who will be on the teams and team members may change from meet to meet. In addition we like to have 2 trained box operators.

6. What are the questions like?
Most questions are taken from the curriculum for grade 7-9. Some questions may deal with current events and/or general cultural knowledge. Quick recall and team work are required.

7. How many teams will SE have?
We plan to register three teams for each meet.

8. How are students chosen for meets?
We hope, but can’t guarantee, that everyone who has attended practices will go to a meet. Generally 9th graders have better opportunity because it is their last year in JH Knowledge Bowl and they have studied more of the material that is used for questions. 7th graders have the best chance of being chosen as computer operators. SE students will be chosen to attend meets based on individual test score, team competition, ability to work with others, attendance at practices, grade eligibility, attitude……

9. How are students notified of their selection for meets?
Names of students selected to participate in a meet are generally posted 2 to 3 days before a meet. Student must see coaches to confirm their attendance and get meet information and schedule. Failure to confirm may result in an alternate being named to take your place.

10. How should students dress for meets?
Follow the SEJH dress code.  The use of caps/hats is not permitted during competition. If you have doubts, ask a coach. Knowledge Bowl tshirts can be purchased for $10.00 or $15.00 if the student wants their name on the shirt.

11. Is there a fee to participate in Junior High Knowledge Bowl?
Yes, there is a $30.00 fee to participate in Knowledge Bowl. This helps to pay for our team registrations fees and transportation to meets.

NOTES: Knowledge bowl is an extracurricular activity. Students must be in good standing with academics
(nothing lower than a C-), attendance, and discipline. Participation in Knowledge Bowl is recorded on a student’s transcript.
